8) Which of Daenerys’ dragons was killed by the Night King?

Viserion was killed by the Night King and raised as a member of his army. As a result, Viserion ended up fighting against Drogon and Rhaegal during the Battle of Winterfell. Consequently, Viserion ended up getting killed again after the Night King died in season 8.

9) When Daenerys talks about ‘Breaking The Wheel’, which is the first house that she names?

Here are some additional tidbits that we thought were interesting but couldn’t find a spot for on our Daenerys Targaryen quiz. This includes behind-the-scenes tidbits about the casting and more.

The Casting Of Daenerys

• Actress Tamzin Merchant played the role of Daenerys in the original pilot for Game of Thrones. The pilot was later re-shot with Emilia Clarke taking over the role and they never looked back.
• On his blog, George R.R Martin praised Tamzin when she was first cast in the role. George praised her work on The Tudors as Henry VIII’s wife.
• During the original pilot (with Tamzin Merchant), George R.R Martin made a cameo as a guest at the wedding of Daenerys and Khal Drogo. George did NOT end up in the wedding scene for the version that actually aired with Emilia Clarke as Daenerys.
• During an interview, Emilia Clarke revealed that she did the ‘Funky Chicken’ dance during her audition for the role of Daenerys.
• Elizabeth Olsen revealed in an interview that she auditioned for the role of Daenerys but did not get the part. She also revealed that her audition went terribly.

Some Behind-The-Scenes Tidbits About The Character

• In the books, Daenerys is only 13 years old. This had to be changed to 18 years old for the television adaptation in order not to break any laws because of the various sexual scenes that she is involved in.
• Daenerys is tied for second with Jon Snow and Cersei Lannister for the most episodes appeared in. All three appeared in 62 out of 73 possible episodes. They are all behind Tyrion Lannister though, who appeared in 67 out of a possible 73 episodes.
• According to WIRED, scientists named a species of sea slug after Daenerys. The species is called Tritonia Khaleesi and shares a resemblance to Daenerys’ braided hair.
• In the books, Daenerys has purple eyes but that isn’t the case in the television series. The rumor is that Emilia Clarke and Harry Lloyd (Viserys Targaryen) tried to wear purple contact lenses during the first season. These contact lenses turned out to be really distracting for the actors and they were scrapped.
• In the books, Daenerys loses her hair after walking into the fire (but it grows back). In the television show, showrunners made the decision for Daenerys to keep her hair after walking into the fire.

Some Behind-The-Scenes Tidbits About Emilia Clarke

• During the episode where Daenerys at the Stallions heart in season one, Emilia Clarke revealed that it was really a gummy made up of solidified jam. Clarke noted that it tasted like “bleach and raw pasta”. She also noted that she had to eat about 28 hearts during the filming of that scene. During her appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Clarke told the story that the fake blood during the scene was so sticky that she got stuck to the toilet during a bathroom break.
• In an interview after Season 8 aired, Emilia revealed that she was “flabbergasted” when she first read the script about her death.
• During an interview, Emilia revealed that it was very difficult to film the dragon scenes. That is because it was all done on a green screen which made it hard to “engage your acting muscles”.
• Emilia also revealed that she found it very difficult to keep the secret of how the final season ended. Her best friend, Lola, ended up figuring out that the show didn’t end well for Daenerys based on how she was acting. This led to Emilia pouring her heart out to Lola and telling her everything.
• Emilia revealed that Jason Mamoa (Khal Drogo) was so kind and caring during their early sex scenes together. She says that he was so protective of her that it made the rape scenes manageable.
• She also says the most difficult scene was the first of season 1. This is where she walked into the bath completely naked. She says it was very weird standing there naked in front of people she had never met.
• Emilia has also revealed that she suffered two brain aneurysms after the filming of season 1 was completed.

Critical Response

• For the role, Emilia Clarke has been nominated for a few Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series (2013, 2015, and 2016). She never ended up winning any of these awards though.
