Some Additional Trivia About George

Here are some additional tidbits about George that we couldn’t find any space for on our quiz. This includes his involvement in the HBO show and more on his personal life.

His Involvement In The Game Of Thrones TV Show

• George wrote four episodes of the Game of Thrones television show. Those episodes are ‘The Pointy End’ (season 1, episode 8), ‘Blackwater’ (season 2, episode 9), ‘The Bear and the Maiden Fair’ (season 3, episode 7), and ‘The Lion and the Rose’ (season 4, episode 2).
• George also made a cameo in the original unaired pilot of the show. He was a guest at the original wedding between Daenerys Targaryen and Khal Drogo. After some characters were recast and the episode was reshot, George didn’t return for a cameo. As a result, this unaired cameo is the only time where George appeared in the television series.
• Martin has said that the ending of the television adaptation will be different from how he ends the book series: “it’s like two alternate realities existing side by side”. The fan reaction to the end of Season 8 will also not change how George writes his ending.

Personal Life

• George married his first wife, Gale Burnick in November 1975. They divorced in 1979. George wrote the following about their marriage:

“Our wedding song was “Bridge Over Troubled Waters.” Maybe we should have taken that as a clue.

• George married his second wife, Parris McBride on February 15th, 2011. They had been together 30 years before tying the knot.
