Although he only lasted for a short time, Ned’s legacy played a major role in the entire series. We have put together 10 difficult trivia questions about him for you to test your knowledge. 1) What does Ned say that the man who passes the sentence should do?

The answer is ‘swing’. The full quote is “The man who passes the sentence should swing the sword”.

2) After Robert Baratheon travels to Winterfell, how long does he say it has been since he and Ned had seen each other?

In Season 1, Episode 1, it was revealed that Ned and Robert hadn’t seen each other in 9 years. For anyone interested, we have a Game of Thrones, season 1 quiz that you can take.

3) What is the name of Ned Stark’s sword?

Ned Stark’s sword is named ‘Ice’ and was made from Valyrian steel. This sword ended up getting melted down by Tywin Lannister and made into two swords, Oathkeeper and Widow’s Wail.

4) What name does Ned Stark say when asked by Robert Baratheon who Jon Snow’s mother is? (In Season 1, Episode 2)

Ned tells Robert that Jon Snow’s mother was named “Wylla”. Here was their exchange on the HBO show:

Robert Baratheon: “She must have been a rare wench to make Lord Eddard Stark forget his honor. You never told me what she looked like.”

Eddard Stark: “Nor will I.”

5) Which leg does Ned Stark get stabbed in during his fight with Jaime Lannister?

6) Who does Ned Stark send after Gregor ‘The Mountain’ Clegane?

Ned sends Beric Dondarrion after the Mountain during the episode. This character was recast for later seasons, which is why you might not have recognized him.

7) Who did Ned say that he grew up with when telling Varys that he is ready to die?

The answer is ‘soldiers’. He says the following quote to Varys: “But I grew up with soldiers. I learned how to die a long time ago.”

8) Who Was The Only Other Survivor Of The Battle At The Tower Of Joy?

The only other survivor of the battle at the Tower Of Joy was Howland Reed. He is the father of Meera and Jojen Reed.

9) Which episode in Season 1 did Ned Stark die?

Ned died in episode 9 of the first season. The episode was titled ‘Baelor’ and Ser Ilyn Payne was the one who cut off his head.

10) What is the final word that Ned Stark said to Jon Snow?

The final word that Ned said to Jon was ‘Promise’. Here is the full quote:

“The next time we see each other, we’ll talk about your mother. I promise.”

This conversation didn’t get to happen as Ned was killed.

The Casting Of Eddard Stark

• George R.R Martin announced during a 2009 blog that he was “thrilled” that they were able to land Sean Bean for the role of Ned. George also noted that the producers of the series and Bean were negotiating for about a month before a deal finally got done.
• Bean had previously worked with David Benioff on the movie Troy, which Benioff wrote the screenplay. Bean played the role of Odysseus.

Some Additional Behind-The-Scenes Notes

• During a Reddit AMA, Sean Bean revealed that the cast kicked around his severed head like a football while filming the scene of Ned Stark’s death.
• In the book series, Ned Stark was around 36 years old. As a result, the producers aged him a solid amount when they cast the 52-year-old Sean Bean to play him in the television series.
• George R.R Martin was asked in an interview who would win in a fight between Ned Stark and Boromir (from Lord of the Rings). George ended up choosing Boromir because he was the stronger warrior. Sean Bean famously played both of those roles.
• Sean Bean appeared in 10 episodes of the show as Ned. Robert Aramayo appeared in 4 episodes as young Ned. Sebastian Croft appeared in 2 episodes as Ned when he was a boy.
