  • Oona Chaplin (Talisa Maegyr), Joe Dempsie (Gendry) and Rose Leslie (Ygritte) were added to the main cast for the third season. They were previously listed as recurring for the previous seasons.
  • Iwan Rheon joined the cast for the third season as Ramsay Bolton. It has been revealed in interviews that Rheon was actually a finalist for the role of Jon Snow but he was beaten out by Kit Harington. They liked Rheon enough to give him the role of Ramsay.
  • Diana Rigg joined the cast for the third season as Olenna Tyrell. For her work on season 3, Rig was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series.
  • Nathalie Emmanuel joined the cast for the third season as Missandei. Emmanuel revealed during an interview that she received the news of winning the role while she was working in a clothing store.
  • Coldplay drummer Will Champion made a cameo during the infamous ‘Red Wedding’ (episode 9).
  • Snow Patrol’s Gary Lightbody made a cameo appearance during “Walk Of Punishment” (episode 3). He is the Bolton soldier who sings, ‘The Bear and the Maiden Fair’ song.
